College Writing I will introduce you to thesis-driven academic writing and prepare you for writing in advanced courses across the curriculum. You will place your ideas in conversation with those of others and will learn the necessary strategies for engaging in successful critical dialogue. You will acquire different methods of generating ideas, analyzing, constructing and organizing arguments, comparing and contrasting texts as well as classifying the writing of others. You will integrate a variety of sources and learn how to implement MLA-style citation. You will develop and improve your grasp of grammar and usage and become sensitive to audience, writing styles, and rhetorical decisions. In sum, this course introduces students to forms and processes of written communication appropriate to college-level audiences.
